This course is ideal for any YogaFit® instructor who wishes to expand his or her competence into the world of yoga for older adults. In YogaFit Older Adults, you’ll learn how to modify your existing YogaFit® classes to safely and effectively challenge your older adult clients, while always honouring and respecting their age-related limitations. In this one-day workshop, you’ll explore variations to your classes that will increase the muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, lung capacity and overall wellness of older participants. YogaFit Older Adults incorporates all the advantages of challenge and self-pacing for all levels and ages in the senior population, from the active and independent, to those who have been sedentary and are discovering the need to exercise as they grow older. Whether you’re planning to welcome older adults into your YogaFit® classes or you’re looking for gentle yet effective options to include in your existing training sessions, this workshop will equip you with the skills to confidently service this ever-growing demographic. In YogaFit Older Adults you’ll learn:

  • how to develop and deliver safe and effective classes that improve the functional capacity of older adults
  • movement to the floor – safely transitioning to standing, from the floor and from sitting
  • common conditions and stages of older adulthood (e.g., osteoporosis, arthritis, menopause), and their considerations in yoga practice
  • techniques for respectfully and successfully teaching yoga to older adults.



What will I receive?

Included in your course registration is the YogaFit Older Adults manual.

What should I bring to the course?

A yoga strap, block and mat, and your copy of YogaFit, by Beth Shaw (2nd edition). If you don’t have one, you can purchase this at the time of enrolment or simply give us a call to arrange one.

How long is the course?

YogaFit Older Adults is an intensive one-day course (typically from 8am to 6pm each day, although times may vary).

How many CECs will I get?

YogaFit Older Adults is approved for 6 CECs with Fitness Australia.

What are the prerequisites to attend?

All attendees should hold at least a Certificate III in Fitness or equivalent and have completed YogaFit Fundamentals successfully.
